Big Easy Drilling Rig
550, 770, 1100
The Big Easy is a New Generation rig, designed specifically to meet the demanding challenges of today’s highly competitive rig contracting market. The Mast and Substructure are optimized for highly mobile land drilling operations, to be assembled quickly and easily, without the need of a crane on site. No conventional rig design or rig packaging concepts were left unchallenged in order to meet the objective of developing the most efficiently mobilized and erected rig on the market. It is comprised of a single mast package, and a three-piece substructure, transported on heavy duty dollies, with three steerable axles and three fixed axles—specifically engineered for optimum weight distribution, minimal turning radius, alignment of assemblies, and heavy-duty off-road operations.
MOBILITY
Mast/Substructure packaging philosophy, and moving equipment integration results in comfortable (legal/permitable) over-the-road loads and dimensions with minimal components.
TRANSPORTATION DOLLY
The dolly, with three steerable axles and three fixed axles, is specifically engineered for optimum weight distribution, minimal turning radius, alignment of assemblies, and heavy-duty off-road operations. The dollies have a self steering ability for normal travel, and hydraulic steering for difficult intersections or on-site maneuvers. For ease of alignment during installation, the mast support system includes hydraulic lifting and translation capabilities at the dolly as well as at the kingpin.
- Custom designed to transport the rig for long moves primarily on paved highways
- Durable for limited off-road use
- Number of axles and axle spacing based on limiting axle loading to legal or permitable in virtually all states of the USA
- Conservatively designed frame
Dolly Steering
- Self-steered for normal speed turning, accomplished by mechanical linkage from the bolster to the front steering
axles - Steering can be overridden with hydraulic powered manual steering for sharp turn maneuvering
Running Gear
- Three steerable rear axles, three fixed front axles
- Dual wheels with low-profile tires
- Air suspensions and ABS air breaks
- Full payload capacity at normal highway speeds
Special Features for Easy Loading
- Loading and Off-Load with one truck
- Tail-boarding and fixed rollers custom designed
- Bolster with hydraulic lift capability
- A Special Towing Gooseneck for towing the dolly unloaded,
attached to the tractor fifth-wheel with the front
axle group off of the road
MULTIPLE WELL OPERATION
Unique Substructure design allows well to well access along a well row, clearing existing well heads, with mast assembly and raising perpendicular to the row of wells, clear of adjacent walls. (Skidding or walking system optional)
MAST & SUBSTRUCTURE
- Substructure design and installation sequence allows off-loading over, and spanning of, wide cellars
- Wide spaced Mast starting legs allows comfortable working space at floor. Floor space is not compromised by narrow mast as configured in most mobile rigs
- Rig arrangement and Substructure arrangement lends itself to efficient winterization
RAISING CYLINDERS
- Efficient design and arrangement keeps cylinder to three stage (compared to four stage on most designs)
- Use of same telescopic cylinders for mast and substructure raising reduces cost and complexity
- Cylinders are double acting for full retraction of the rods for protection and longer life
- Cylinder is always in compression, special rod end design avoids need for pinning and unpinning
EASY BRACE SYSTEM
Nudging loads with trucks, struggling with come-a-longs, and swinging large hammers to bring substructure braces into alignment and pinning are a thing of the past with Easy Brace. Easy Brace also serves other rig assembly functions such as:
- Racking Board and Belly Board width expansion
- Drawworks support extension
